World No. 14 Taylor Fritz was defeated in five sets by 22-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Fritz had defeated the 22-time Grand Slam champion earlier this year while the route to winning the Indian Wells, and he was feeling confident going into his Wimbledon semifinal matchup against Rafael Nadal.

Fritz was on an 8-match winning run and had a strong week at SW19 after winning Eastbourne International a week earlier. Prior to facing Nadal, he had not lost a set during the tournament. The Spaniard battled an abdominal ailment the whole match, but despite Fritz’s valiant effort, Nadal still managed to win.

Taylor Fritz recently acknowledged that he did not deserve to win and provided instructions for defeating the monstrous Rafael Nadal during an Instagram discussion for the upcoming Citi Open to be held in Washington. Taylor Fritz had previously lost to the Spaniard in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, but the Spaniard had been reduced and even forfeited for the semifinals a few hours earlier.

“It was a huge game and I wanted it. I saw at the beginning of the tournament that it could be a quarter-final and I said, I want this quarter-final, and I got it, and I played well. I had my chances, it could have gone in both directions. I’m afraid of losing obviously,” said the American.

The 24-year-old signed off by saying, “After the end of the game, I was sitting there and I wanted to cry. I never felt that after a defeat. I still believe that he can be beaten; only you have to go down to hell to get there.”
