“I’d expect her to play well!” Andy Murray backs Emma Raducanu for a great run at the US Open despite inconsistent performances

Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu
Emma Raducanu, the young Brit rose to fame with her incredible performance on her debut season at the US Open in 2021 where she went on to become the singles title champion defeating Leylah Fernandez in straight sets. She will be looking to defend her title at the 2022 US Open hoping for a great comeback after innumerable inconsistent performances since her title win. She made a good start at the Western & Southern Open defeating the veteran Serena Williams in the first round and Victoria Azarenka in the second round but faced defeat in the third round to Jessica Pegula in straight sets.
She faced early exits at all WTA tournaments as she failed miserably to make her presence felt after her maiden title. She failed to keep up with the hopes and fell under the pressure she carried on her shoulders which led to a series of losses. She hasn’t gone past the quarter-final stages of the competition. She had made a good start at the Citi Open managing to reach the quarter-finals but eventually lost to Ludmilla Samsonova.
“She still played much better!”Andy Murray hopeful of Emma Raducanu have a great comeback at the US Open

Andy Murray, the 2012 US Open champion, during an interview, spoke in support of his compatriot Emma Raducanu and expressed his views that the young Brit player will have a great season in New York despite being out of proportion in her performances. He revealed that she is improving with each of her matches and will have gained confidence after defeating Serena where she put up a great match. He said “I think she played really well last week. I watched a couple of her matches. I saw most of the match against Serena and then the one against Jessica Pegula. Even though she lost that one she is playing much better.“
He felt that Raducanu has a great and fearless style of play and that the conditions at Flushing Meadows are best suited for her. He added “The balls they use over here help a lot, they are a lot lighter, the women’s ball. That allows her to get more on her shots, on her serves, she seems like she enjoyed the conditions last week. I’d imagine with it being quick here in New York she will enjoy them. I’d expect her to play well next week.“
It will be interesting to see if the defending champion can get back to winning ways at the US Open as many hopes are laid on her with the hope of putting up a great show during her first-round match against Alize Cornet in New York.
