“If had been Tom Brady during deflategate, he’d be home long ago” Twitter compares Brittney Griner’s condition in Russia to Tom Brady citing tennis legend Billie Jean King’s comments
Tom Brady, Brittney Griner, and Billie Jean King
Tennis icon Billie Jean King extended her support for Brittney Griner on her 32nd birthday. Griner was detained in February when entering Russia for possession of cannabis oil. She pleaded guilty when she accidentally packed vape cartridges containing cannabis oil when in a hurry but after some months, the eight-time WNBA All-Star was convicted and sentenced to nine years in prison.
As per reports, Griner is crying out for help and support while she is being tortured by the Russian authorities. The US government is also under heavy criticism by a certain section of society for not acting on the matter swiftly. They have sorted out one solution to this issue, which is a prisoner swap. President Joe Biden is willing to trade convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout in exchange for Brittney Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan, who was imprisoned for espionage.
Many fans, followers, and renowned celebrities on social media extended their support to Griner. Billie Jean King called out for help to advocate for her release and bring her home and cited her detention as unlawful.
“Today, Brittney Griner turns 32. She will spend her birthday in a Russian prison, where she has been unlawfully detained for 8 months. Let’s continue to advocate for her release and bring her home,” King wrote on Twitter.
Tennis Twitter compares Brittney Griner’s situation with Tom Brady’s deflategate
In 2015, Tom Brady was involved in the infamous ‘deflategate’ scandal. He ordered the deliberate deflation of footballs used in the New England Patriots victory against the Indianapolis Colts. Later, Brady was suspended for four games, while the team was fined $1 million and forfeited two draft selections in 2016.
One of the Twitter users pointed out that if it’d had been Tom Brady during deflategate, he’d been home a long time ago and called out the pay difference in men’s and women’s sports.
