It still seems unlikely whether Novak Djokovic will play at the US Open or not, the CDC recently changed its guidelines which should allow the Serb to compete but there have been no new developments regarding the matter, famous writer and compatriot of Djokovic, Nebojša Jovanović spoke to Sputnik over the Serb’s participation.

Talking to Sputnik magazine, Jovanovic said, “I can’t fathom the principal not trying to write a letter, and they said in advance that they won’t do anything, they just respect the administration regarding the trip, If it was [Roger] Federer or [Rafael] Nadal, they would have done everything to bring them, you can literally feel it.”

He said that he received a blunt reply from the authorities saying, “The administration responded with: Thank you, we respect you, the team has been informed and will work on it.”

Jovanovic also said that he wrote a letter to the president of the USTA saying, “This morning I sent a letter to the president of the USTA in which I elaborated everything because I was intrigued by the attitude that they will literally do nothing about Novak’s case, It is a precedent in sports that the organization does not try to bring one of the best tennis players of all time, even with a request or a letter to Biden, even if he is rejected, but it is in their job description.”

Djokovic’s case is under the limelight currently as the US Open is right around the corner, fans are anxious to know whether the Serbian will be able to compete or not.
