Iga Swiatek dominated the WTA tour in 2022, winning one title after another in some fashion. The Polish tennis player captured the world number one ranking earlier this year, after Ashleigh Barty announced her retirement. The three-time major champion claimed eight titles this year, which includes the French Open and US Open.

Just a couple of weeks before the season draws to a close, Iga Swiatek became only the second player after Serena Williams to cross 11,000 points in WTA Rankings. The Pole currently has 11,085 WTA points to her name, and could end the year with another 800 points if she manages to win the WTA Finals in Texas.

Serena Williams became the first player to go past the 11,000 point landmark in 2013, where she ended the season with an astonishing 13,615 points. The America legend produced one of her best seasons that year, winning 11 out of the 13 finals she competed in.

Iga Swiatek entered the WTA Finals week in Texas as the clear favorite to bag the title. So far, she has lived up to the expectations, and has completely outplayed her opponents in the round robin stages. Without even dropping a single set, the Pole has registered three back to back wins to make it to the semifinals.

Iga Swiatek outclassed Coco Gauff in the final round-robin stage encounter. The American was all over the place in the second set, as she was dished out a bagel by the world number one. Iga Swiatek will now face Aryna Sabalenka in the last four on Sunday evening.

The duo have locked horns against each other four times in 2022, with Iga Swiatek emerging victorious on all occasions. Their latest meeting came at the US Open 2022, where Iga Swiatek produced a commendable comeback victory after being a set down. Given the form the world number one is in at the moment, it will take something special from Aryna Sabalenka’s racket to stop her.
