The WTA 1000 Madrid Open has been the talk of the town in the last week. May it be for Aryna Sabalenka getting a smaller cake than Carlos Alcaraz or Amanda Anisimova citing mental fatigue and taking a break from the sport.

In the recent Madrid Open final, the top two ranked players in the world, Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, faced off in a highly competitive match. Ultimately, World No. 2 Sabalenka emerged as the winner over World No. 1 Swiatek.

While praising Sabalenka’s good tennis, Swiatek also expressed her displeasure with the scheduling, saying “It’s not fun to play at 1 am though, so I’m happy anyway that I was able to get past this experience.” This comment led some to speculate that she was taking a dig at Feliciano Lopez and indicating her dissatisfaction with the event’s organization.

The ATP and WTA tours have seen many matches extending past midnight. The Madrid Open finale wasn’t the first, nor will it be the last when it comes to late-night matches. Fans have expressed disappointment towards World No. 1, feeling that she has not been able to take the loss in good stride and has complained without any substance.

Iga Swiatek will need to bounce back from this loss and view it as a one-off game, as the tour moves on to Rome and then Paris for the major event. Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka can draw great motivation from her victory and strive to remain consistent, aiming to claim her first French Open title.
