Iga Swiatek has been one of the most prominent players in the last two years. Swiatek ended the season as World No.1 after winning the WTA Tour Finals. She was dethroned from her position by Aryna Sabalenka due to the Polish ace’s poor form in the middle of the season. However, after a return to form in the WTA Tour and the China Open, Swiatek superbly ended the year.
After a successful 2023 season, Swiatek finished the season as the highest-paid female athlete with a whopping $23.9 million in earnings as per Forbes. She has beaten Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka to this feat. Coco Gauff is in the third position with $21.7 million whereas Sabalenka is in sixth position with $14.7 million.
Gauff and Sabalenka too had a very formidable 2023 season, with both of them winning a major Grand Slam each. Sabalenka won the 2023 Australian Open, whereas, on the other hand, Gauff won the 2023 US Open. Emma Raducanu and Naomi Osaka, even after missing almost the entire season, hold fourth and fifth positions in the list with $15.2 million and $15 million.
The Polish won the French Open at Rolland Garros during the season and also went on to win the WTA Tour Finals. In the finals of the WTA, Tour Swiatek defeated Jessica Pegula in straight sets, after beating Sabalenka in the semis. Besides, Swiatek also won the Poland Open as well as the China Open. The 22-year-old also reached the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon.
Iga Swiatek will enter the Australian Open as World No.1
However, the 2023 season didn’t ensure a smooth run for the Pole. She was dethroned from her World No.1 title by Aryna Sabalenka in the middle of the year. As, during that period, Swiatek’s poor run of form saw her get early eliminations from numerous tournaments.
The 2022 US Open winner had a poor run this time around down under, losing out to Jelena Ostapenko in the Round of 16 of the tournament. Swiatek also lost to Coco Gauff in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters.

In a head-to-head situation, Swiatek has a superior record against both of them. However, Sabalenka and Gauff have given Swiatek a tough time in the past and will undoubtedly be her main threats for the next season, starting with the Australian Open.
Swiatek didn’t had a very good time around last time in Melbourne Park, and thus, she will be determined to make a statement. However, for that, she will surely have to lock horns with the defending champion, Sabalenka.
