“Queen of errors” – Iga Swiatek becomes the butt of jokes while Jessica Pegula earns the praise of fans after her sensational win in Canadian Open
Iga Swiatek's loss to Jessica Pegula in the Canadian Open welcomes criticisms fromt social media.
Iga Swiatek
Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek becomes the butt of the jokes as she got eliminated by Jessica Pegula in the Canadian Open semi-finals. The final score was 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4. The World No.1 was not in her best form as she got into the semis after 2 tight encounters in the previous rounds. So Pegula was expected to make this an interesting contest but a win was not much in the cards.
By losing the Canadian Open, Swiatek will be trying to improve her hard-court game to peak for the US Open. The 22-year-old is the reigning champion at the Flushing Meadows but with the current form, it doesn’t look so easy for her to retain the title. With the top-5 players including Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, and Ons Jabeur have been pushing their limits in recent tournaments, Swiatek will have top competitions in the coming tournaments for sure.
Though Iga Swiatek got a comfortable win in the Poland Open, it was only a WTA-250 tournament. So this loss in Canadian Open will be considered as an extension to her poor run from Wimbledon where she lost in the quarter-finals. The Polish star has been crucified by Tennis Twitter (Now renamed as X) now calling her names like “queen of errors” and “big-match loser“.
Iga Swiatek is the reigning US Open champion

The Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek will not be losing any ranking points from the Canadian Open loss as she didn’t move past the second round here last year also. But her World Number 1 ranking can be in trouble if she fails to retain the title in the US Open, depending upon the performances of the other top-5 players. Swiatek will be looking to regain the top form before the final showdown in the US Open.
The US Open is her second-best Grand Slam having a winning percentage of 81 with a win-loss record of 13-3. Last year she got past the current World No.5 and Wimbledon runner’s up Ons Jabeur in the finals. This year also, players including Jabeur will be threats to the Polish World No.1 to retain the crown.
Swiatek will next play Cincinnati Open before the US Open campaign. Last year, she failed to move past the second round here. So the Polish star will not be facing much pressure from the rankings points perspective, here as well.
