World No.1 Iga Swiatek resumed normal service with a straight-set win over 11th seed Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals of the 2022 French Open to advance into the semi-finals of the Grand Slam for the second time in three years. Swiatek won the match 6-3, 6-2 in 1 hour and 29 minutes to register her 33rd consecutive win of the season.

The first set was started strongly by both players before Swiatek broke for the first time at 3-3 to take one game lead. She held her serve and then broke Pegula to take the first set 6-3 in 47 minutes. The important break in the second set came at 2-1 with the break helping Iga to 3-1 and eventually close the set at 6-2 in 42 minutes to move into the last-4 quite comfortably compared to the difficult 3-set during her fourth-round win.

I had time to celebrate actually it was pretty nice but it is always weird because I am not at that level yet because I don’t know where is the limit for me for celebration. I just try to be careful and just spend more time being cool, lying in bed but maybe in a few years I am going to be able to watch the Champions League finals in between the tournament and still win, so we’ll see,” said Swiatek during her on-court interview after the win over Pegula.

With Iga winning against Pegula, Daria Kasatkina got the better of her compatriot Veronika Kudermetova in straight-sets to move into the semi-finals as well and will be facing Swiatek for a place in the finals. It will be the fifth meeting between the two players who met for the first time in June 2021 and have since then played one match on grasscourt and three on hardcourts.

Daria managed to win only the grasscourt match while Swiatek sweeped the floor with straight-set wins in the next three matches which included wins at the 2022 Australian Open and also in the 2022 Qatar Open, the tournament from when Swiatek has not tasted a defeat.
