One of the favorites for the Wimbledon title, Iga Swiatek has just got her fans slightly worried. The Polish ace who just came off a great win in Paris lifting her third French Open in four years wasn’t up to the task in her semi-final match against Lucia Bronzetti at the Bad Homburg Open.
The number 1 seed pulled out of the event. This is the first time the Polish ace has pulled out of an event midway. Swiatek was using the event as a good warm-up for the Wimbledon. The Polish was getting a good feel of the grass court before the mega event. However, due to a certain illness, she found herself withdrawing midway through the tournament for the very first time.
This is what Swiatek had to say about the situation. “I had a really bad night. We did with my conditioning coach measurements in the morning. They didn’t really look good because I barely slept. I had a stomachache but I don’t know if there was something wrong or not. Later in the day, I felt ok, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be fine.”
Clearly, Swiatek felt discomfort before the game. As she mentioned she didn’t sleep well the night before. It could very well be the fatigue of playing three back-to-back matches on a different surface. Swiatek also faced a stomach ache. However, the good news for her fans is that she started feeling a little better as the day went on. The very fact that the number 1 seed is confident of playing at Wimbledon is great news.

How has Iga Swiatek’s preparation been for Wimbledon?
Iga Swiatek hasn’t played many tournaments on the grass, unlike many big players. She has limited herself to only one warm-up event post the French Open. This might be due to the fatigue of playing back-to-back masters events and then winning a Grand Slam which requires a lot of zeal and takes a toll on the physical health of players. With a lot of tennis already under her belt, Swiatek probably wanted to freshen up.
In the process, she beat the likes of Tatjana Maria, Jil Teichmann, and Anna Blinkova. However, despite just losing one set of her three matches in the Bad Homburg Open, Swiatek failed to recover for her Semifinal against Lucia Bronzetti. She would look to first be physically one hundred percent fit and then look to bring her A game onto the table at the All-England Club when she starts her Wimbledon.
