Next year, in 2024, the prestigious Olympic Games will be held in Paris. The tournament will be played at the Stade Roland Garros, the same place where the French Open is held every year. Iga Swiatek has expressed her desire to play at the Olympics for a long time. However, the Polish top seed revealed her apprehensions recently.

The World No.2 has frequently expressed her disappointment with the WTA for their terrible scheduling and the lack of breaks in between tournaments to allow players to recuperate. She also withdrew from the WTA 1000 event in Guadalajara, Mexico, citing the “change of schedule” as the reason for her decision. Swiatek, in conversation with Eurosport said, “I need to listen to my body and the season is very intense — our number one priority is to play it until the end in good health and plan it wisely so we wouldn’t risk an injury.”

The 22-year-old said, “The Olympic Games are obviously a priority, but it will be difficult to be in optimal shape specifically for these competitions,” while in conversation with Eurosport. “If I wanted to do that, the preparation period would have to start during Roland-Garros…The calendar is very tight and I have many important tournaments ahead of me,” she added.

The French Open Champion will be aiming to both defend her title at the Rolland-Garros next year and to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games that’ll be held in the same stadium. Swiatek will also be teaming up with her former United Cup partner, Hubert Hurkacz, at the Olympics for the mixed doubles.

“On the way we have the Australian Open, important events in the United States and Roland Garros. It’s not that I practice a discipline in which the most important thing is the world championships and the Olympic Games,” she added to the explanation.

Swiatek will be looking forward to winning a gold medal at the prestigious games next year. She might equal Serena Williams‘ record of winning a medal at the Olympics as well as a Grand Slam at the same venue.
