Iga Swiatek has defended her Stuttgart Title, and how! In an amazing 2 sets, she took down her great rival Aryna Sabalenka. In the exact rematch of 2022, Iga Swiatek got the best of Sabalenka second time in a row with 6-3,6-4. The score looked slightly better for Sabalenka from the last year when it was 6-2,6-2. By defending the title World no. 1, Swiatek has proved she is the ‘Queen of Clay”. Having won the French Open twice already in 2020 and 2022, she was inching close to the title. This is the second title for the world no. 1 in this year.
Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka have a great rivalry brewing both Off-court and On-Court. Swiatek has openly spoken against Wimbledon’s decision to allow Russians and Belarusians. She has also spoken openly about Anastasia Potapova wearing a Russian football jersey to a match. All these events led up to the final at Stuttgart, making the battle even more intense. Though many were hoping Aryna Sabalenka to revenge her 2022 loss, it was not meant to be.
Iga’s semifinal match was not what the audience wanted to see. Ons Jabeur had to retire from the match due to her leg injury. It was touted as a great match to watch, but it didn’t materialize. Despite that, Iga Swiatek has been looking very invincible on clay. She will be the hot favorite to win the French Open too this year for the third time in her career.
