World No 1 Iga Swiatek has been one of the most consistent players of the Tour this season. Polish star made the year unforgettable by clinching two Grand Slam singles titles and a total of six WTA titles. The 21-year-old also became the fourth player in the Open Era to retain the No. 1 for more than 30 weeks.

Endorsing the dominance of Swiatek, 2022 US Open semifinalist Caroline Garcia believes the Pole has ‘set the bar high’ with her on-court competitiveness. Garcia was on the Players’ Voice podcast and talked about Grand Slams, top rankings, etc among other things. The French star also believes that it will be hard for other players to stop Swiatek in the coming season.

“You know that the World No. 1 spot is something quite legendary. It’s historic in a career. So it’s part of the things to do or try to accomplish at least once,” Garcia said. 29-year-old Garcia is currently 4th ranked in WTA rankings and hopes to scale further up in the upcoming season.

A dominant Iga Swiatek in 2022, what to expect in the upcoming season

Iga Swiatek

The Polish player has been way ahead of her competitors in the 2022 season. The authority of Swiatek can be gauged by the fact that she has more than double the points of World No. 2 Ons Jabeur in the rankings. Swiatek’s 37-match winning streak is the longest on the WTA Tour in the 21st century.

The 21-year-old clinched two singles titles this year winning one each at Paris and the Flushing Medows. The Pole also became the fourth player in the Open Era to retain the No. 1 for more than 30 weeks. At the end of the season, Swiatek was one of the highest-paid female athletes in 2022.

As the 2023 season is just about to start, Swiatek will be the favorite to add a few more majors in the upcoming season as well. She is the top-seed player at the 2023 Australian Open. Switek too would be thrilled to carry on the form and further consolidate the lead over others.
