After a comfortable victory against Sofia Kenin in the first round of the Australian Open, Iga Swiatek is up against Danielle Collins in the second round.
The match is equally poised, with both players giving it their all for each and every point. However, one moment turned out to be the talking point during the first set of the match.
At one point in time in the first set, which Swiatek eventually won, the scores were tied 4-4. As expected, the match was getting extremely tight.
But the World No. 1 raised her level to smash a Rafael Nadal one-handed backhand angle volley down the right side of Danielle Collins to break the tie. This is one of the most difficult shots to execute in the game, and the ease with which Swiatek did it speaks to tons of her skillset.
After a tight first half, Swiatek won 6-4. Collins has come back strongly in the second set of the match. The American is currently leading the second set by a big margin of 5-1.
Even after falling behind in the third set, Swiatak came back strongly to clinch the set and the match.
A lot at stake for Iga Swiatek in the match against Danielle Collins
Iga Swiatek is one of the top-seeded players in the tournament. Thus, she will have a lot more added pressure going into the match.
Though she still has the advantage, Danielle Collins is posing a tough challenge for World No. 1. However, with the nature of Swiatek, she will always be expected to make a comeback from behind.
Though Swiatek won the match, Collins posed a serious challenge to World No. 1. It took an absolutely special performance for Swiatek to get through the second round.
Even in head-to-head between the two, the Polish player has the lead with 5 wins to 1. In their last encounter at the Cincinnati Masters, Swiatek beat the 30-year-old in straight sets.
