“I don’t care that people say,” Iga Swiatek ignores critics underestimating her hard work due to consistent straight-set wins

Iga Swiatek

World No.1, Iga Swiatek gives a strong reply to all her critics who underestimated her hard work after her recent straight-set wins. Swiatek had been in the form of her life and she is absolutely dominating in the matches she is playing. After a disappointing Australian Open where she lost in the fourth round to Elena Rybakina, she bounced back super strong. She won a record-breaking Qatar Open recently followed by reaching the finals in Dubai.

The Polish is set to face Barbora Krejčíková in the finals of Dubai Tennis Championship later today. After losing in straight sets to Rybakina, she hasn’t lost a single set which shows how ruthless she had been since her only defeat this year. However, few fans and critics commented saying she got an easy draw to which she gave a reply in her style.

Speaking in the post-match press conference Iga replied to her critics and said, “When I’m at a tournament, I try not to read social media too much. I post things, but I don’t pay much attention to them. Honestly, I don’t care that people say what I’m doing looks easy because I know it’s not to win by such a score.”

She continued speaking and said, “Tennis is a very complicated sport where you never know what is going to happen. What I feel is that if you work hard and give 100%, chances will come. I’m happy to play the tennis I currently play, but I’m prepared and ready for every match. If I wasn’t, the result would be different.”

Iga Swiatek eyes on 1000 WTA points to cement her No.1 spot

On Friday, Iga Swiatek secured another victory against Coco Gauff in the Dubai WTA semi-finals, extending her perfect record against the American to 6-0. Swiatek won the match in straight sets, triumphing 6-4, 6-2. Her victory sets up a championship showdown with Barbora Krejcikova, who defeated third seed Jessica Pegula in a closely contested match with a score of 6-1, 5-7, 6-0.

After successfully retaining her Doha crown last week, Swiatek has her sights set on securing her sixth WTA 1000 title on Saturday. Interestingly, every time the 21-year-old Pole has reached the quarter-finals at this level in the past, she has gone on to win the title.

Having dropped just nine games on her way to the final, she has set a new record for the fewest games dropped by a player en route to the championship match at a WTA 1000 tournament. On paper, it looks like Swiatek would dominate this final too but she will not underestimate Krejčíková as she comes to the final defeating Pegula.
