Iga Swiatek, Venus Williams

Iga Swiatek won her second French Open title and has tightened her grip on the world number 1 spot as she is without a doubt the best active player in women’s tennis. Swiatek brushed aside a nervous Coco Gauff as she defeated her 6-1, 6-3 to win the final in straight sets. Swiatek has been dominating the women’s circuit these past few months and the French Open title marks her sixth consecutive title.

Swiatek started her title-winning sprint in the Qatar Total Open, where she won her second Masters 1000 title. She then went to the United States and won both Indian Wells and Miami Open to become the 11th player to win the sunshine double and the first to win all of the first three Masters 1000 titles. She won the Stuttgart Open and the Italian Open after her arrival on the clay and wrapped up the clay season with the French Open victory.

Iga has been extremely precise and ruthless in her matches winning most of her matches in straight sets and also by finishing many of her sets with a 6-2 or better score.

Iga Swiatek has equaled Venus William‘s 35-match win streak in the Open Era with the victory in the French Open finals. As the tour moves into the grass season, Swiatek has the opportunity to surpass Venus’s Open Era record and script another history. She would also be looking toward Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic‘s win streak to try to get closer to the overall win streak as well.

With Iga Swiatek’s current for, it looks nearly impossible to defeat her and it would take a brilliant player playing out of her mind or Swiatek playing very poorly for her to lose. She will enter the grass season in the hunt for the Wimbledon title and keep her win streak alive.
