World No 1 Iga Swiatek‘s campaign for 2022 ended with her bowing out of the 2022 WTA Finals after losing in the semifinals against Aryna Sabalenka in three sets. Iga Swiatek, during an interview, went on to say that “I’m not gonna lie to you, I’ve been waiting for that moment. Because last week, basically it was pretty hard to see the finish line but still be fully motivated and ready for every match. On one hand, I’m sad that I lost, but on the other hand, I have one more day off. That’s something on the bright side.

Adding to her assertions, she said, “I want to spend eight days not thinking about anything and not doing anything. That’s the first time I’m gonna have a vacation like that because usually I went to places where I could do sightseeing, and I still had an active vacation,

The 2022 US Open champion claimed the No 1 after the sudden retirement of the former Australian player Ashleigh Barty. She achieved another feat by becoming the second player to cross 11,000 ranking points in the WTA rankings after Serena Williams in 2013. The French Open champion has withdrawn from the Billie Jean King Cup. She had expressed her concerns over poor scheduling between WTA Finals and BJK Cup, which could affect her health due to the different time zones and climatic conditions.

Swiatek could have ended the year with another 800 points if she had gone on to win the WTA Finals, but that will not happen for sure since she has been eliminated by the Russian player. And since she isn’t playing in Glasgow, she will end her year with 11,085 WTA ranking points to her name.
