‘Out of the world’ winning streak pushes Iga Swiatek closer to Serena Williams’ rare record

Current World No.1 Iga Swiatek, is probably enjoying the best time of her career. She has won the sunshine double in the United States and is looking unstoppable now. She is aiming for her 2nd French Open title this year, as she has already made a winning start to her clay season with a dominating win over Eva Lys in Stuttgart.
With this win, Swiatek surpasses Serena Williams‘s record majestic record of 20 on the trot wins. She is looking unstoppable and the slow nature of the clay-court has done nothing to slow her down. The 20-year-old Eva Lys faced her toughest opposition ever, with Iga at her scintillating best. Swiatek won the match with a score of 6-1, 6-1, with this win she has extended her undefeated winning streak to a stupendous 21 matches.
Iga Swiatek inches closer to Serena Williams’ record

Interestingly, out of her last seven sets, there were four 6-0 and three 6-1 wins. Once again today, she decimated the talented youngster and made her way into the quarterfinals of the WTA Stuttgart Open. Also, known as the Porsche Grand Prix, the tournament offers the Porsche Sportscar alongside the prize money.
After her win, Swiatek also became the third-youngest woman to win 20 or more straight matches in the 21st century. The only two people above her on the list are the Williams sisters- Serena and Venus Williams. Venus won 35 consecutive matches in 2000 while Serena won 21 consecutive matches a couple of years later.
Swiatek has a few challenges in the tournament including Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, and Maria Sakkari, but she will expect to continue her tournament-winning run.
