Iga Swiatek continues to power through the Miami Open, as she recorded her second win at the tournament today. She was up against Linda Noskova for the third time this season, and the Czech was not going down without a fight.
Linda Noskova had started well. She put the World No.1 under pressure by taking the hard-fought first set. It seemed like an Australian Open repeat, as Noskova was eyeing another win over Swiatek. However, the Pole pushed right back, taking the game to a third set.
From there on, it was comparatively easy sailing for Swiatek, who swooped in with a clutch. Though Noskova tried to fight her way back into the game, the Pole managed to break at the right moment, stealing away the game, and soon won the match. Delighted, as she was, Swiatek did not hold back from praising her opponent, who put up quite a show.
She’s really talented--I feel like as an underdog, she can really just go for it. I know that feeling. She’s using it well. But on the other hand, I have the experience I can use. You can see in these matches it kind of evens itself out… I’m happy I could overcome what came to me today.said Swiatek during the post-match interview.
With this win, Swiatek made her way through to the round of 16 at the Miami Open, with goals of getting the Sunshine Double. After the Indian Wells domination, she looks to do the same here as well.
Iga Swiatek extends her win streak at the Miami Open, as she booked her spot in the Round Of 16
World No.1 Iga Swiatek continues to peak in tennis, as she extends her win streak from the Indian Wellse to the Miami Open. Having not dropped a set in the first half of the Sunshine Double, she was put to a test in the latter half.
Swiatek was a strong favorite of the tournament, but as the upsets built on, it seemed like another one was brewing. Linda Noskova was well ahead of Swiatek in their third clash of the season. However, the Pole pulled it back in the last minute, to finish the match 6(7)-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Swiatek will now face a familiar face, Ekaterina Alexandrova in the fourth round of the Open. As the draws get closer, more and more exciting matches emerge, grabbing the attention of many. The last time these two went against each other was at the Qatar Open last month, where the Pole registered a dominating win.
