Iga Swiatek has been one of the most consistent players on the WTA circuit currently. On Saturday, the World No. 1 clinched the Qatar Open 2024. The Pole beat World No. 4 Elena Rybakina in the finals of the tournament IN Straight set.

With this title, the Polish player made it to her third straight Qatar Open title. This equaled her with the legendary Serena Williams, who did it at the Miami Open (2013–2015).

Recently, Swiatek also registered her name in the history books when she entered the 90th week of her career as World No. 1. With that being said, there is no denying that it has been a historical week for the Polish player, as she won her 18th Major of her career and first of the season.

The match started with Elena Rybakina going all guns blazing against Swiatek. The Pole was down by 1-4 at one period of time in the first set. However, Rybakina mistakenly cut her leg during a serve and required a medical timeout. And it eventually broke the momentum of the Kazakh player.

Swiatek capitalized on the timebreak perfectly, staging an amazing comeback in the first set and winning it in the tiebreakers. The second set was completely dominated by the 22-year-old, as she won the match 7-6, 6-2.

After the match, Swiatek expressed her happiness in the post-match interview.

I came here and was pretty stressed because I felt the expectations. I wanted to do everything step by step like I always do. I’m really happy. I’m really proud of myself.
The 22-year-old said.

The way Swiatek dominated against an in-form Rybakina in the finals was an impressive display of grace and determination. Moreover, the Polish player was beaten by the Kazakh in each of their last three meetups. However, despite that, she overcame the hurdles and scripted an amazing title defense.

Swiatek’s record at Doha currently stands at 13-1. Moreover, she has only suffered one defeat in her last 23 matches, which came against the young prodigy, Linda Noskova. The 2023 French Open winner will be seen in action during the Dubai tennis championships now.
