Iga Swiatek completely whitewashed Linda Noskova in their recent encounter in the third round of the 2024 Indian Wells, thus redeeming herself from her loss against her in the third round of the Australian Open. It was one of Swiatek’s most dominant displays in the recent past, where she even got a bagel in the second set and it shows what a good performance the Polish international pulled off.
Swiatek’s performance in her first match of the tournament against Danielle Collins was similar to begin with. She defeated the American 6-3, 6-0 in the round of 64 and went on to defeat Linda Noskova in the next round 6-4, 6-0. However, she admitted that the match against the Czech tennis player was not easy at all.
The World No. 1 in the WTA rankings said that the match was intense at first, but she was waiting for a chance to score and Noskova did give her that opportunity. Thus, her laid-back approach and composure were what led Swiatek to take home this win in the long run, and that too was dominant.
It was really intense at the beginning. I was looking for my chance to break back. I was pretty sure if I stayed positive and calm, the chances would come. I’m happy I was ready in proper moments to even the score and lead.Swiatek in the on-court interview
Iga Swiatek faces Yulia Putintseva in the round of 16 in the 2024 Indian Wells
Swiatek will next face Yulia Putintseva in the round of 16 of the 2024 Indian Wells. The Kazakhstani player’s rise to the round of 16 in this tournament so far has shown sheer determination, and it is pretty commendable to begin with. She beat Tamara Korpatsch, Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Madison Keys respectively to reach the fourth round, where she will now face Iga Swiatek.
The two players have played a total of two matches against each other and Iga Swiatek emerged victorious in both of those matches. Their most recent encounter took place in the 2023 United Cup.
That, added to the fact that Swiatek is currently the World No. 1 in the WTA rankings, makes her the immediate favorite against an underdog Putinsteva in the upcoming match. Top seed Swiatek is also one of the favorites to win this entire tournament.
