Iga Swiatek faced the teenager Qinwen Zheng, a 19-year-old talented Chinese player. Zheng has already broken through Simona Halep after losing the first set and on her debut French Open, she was playing the world number 1 in the fourth round. Zheng was the perfect party popper, she had nothing to lose and she played brilliantly. She broke through Iga Swiatek taking the first set 7-6(7-5) after being down 5-2. It was the scariest moment for Swiatek in her 32-match winning streak.

But, Iga Swiatek came back strong to wrap up the second set with a bagel treatment. She defeated Qinwen Zheng in a three-set thriller 6-7(5-7), 6-0, 6-2. It was a clinical performance from Swiatek after being a set down. Zheng had some issues which she got looked after, being 0-3 down in the second set. Zheng struggled physically as Swiatek survived the score to go on to win her 32nd match in a row. With this victory, Iga Swiatek entered the quarterfinals of the French Open 2022.

“She’s playing amazing tennis and I’ve never had a chance to play against her. So, I was surprised with some of her shots. Huge congrats to her because it’s a tough to win at Grand Slam. I am pretty happy that I could comeback. Pretty frustrating first set when I had the lead so just proud of myself that I am still in the tournament “

About formulating the tactics she said: “I’m not watching tennis a lot because I feel like I am just watching the ball not analysing. I play tennis so I should know that but beyond learning what I can take, but he’s doing most of the job of tactics”

About her quarterfinal match preparation, she said: “The same as any other match, quarterfinals is stressful round, so hopefully I will be able to play my game and be loosened up. I know how Jessica can play, she is very dangerous player so hopefully I will be able to play my game and be focussed.”
