The top two players of women’s tennis Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka have been battling the heat against one another for almost two seasons now. With the escalation of a new rivalry happening in the heart of the sport, of course, the tennis fans are playing their part as well. Fans of both stars took the rivalry a step further when Swiatek was adjudged as the women’s player of the year.

Sabalenka who has simply taken the game of consistency to a different note this year having qualified to the semi-finals of all four Grand Slam titles did not happen to catch the eyes of the WTA award handlers. On the other hand, Swiatek’s Grand Slam performances were not up to the mark at all as she could only avail a single Slam win at the Roland Garros.

In terms of titles, Sabalenka came out a lot behind Swiatek who has picked up six titles this year. With titles coming as the China Open, the Qatar Open, the Stuttgart Open, the Warsaw Open, and also at the WTA Finals, Swiatek was never behind her rival. But Sabalenka’s fans have not taken this award lightly by any means with many individuals hinting at the performance difference of the Pole in the Slams and at the WTA 250s and 500s.

Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek have simply taken women’s tennis to a different level at the moment forcing the other stars to up their game as well. Both of the stars have been battling for the top spot in the WTA rankings for over two years now and this year turned out an absolute classic when Sabalnek was successful in occupying the World No. 1 spot in September after the US Open.

But just in the very last year-end tournament, Swiatek has taken back her position from the Belarusian making the rivalry even more interesting. This year the duo has faced off against one another for a total of three times. Firstly at the finals of the Stuttgart Open, Swiatek beat Sabalenka lifting the title followed by Sabalenka revenging her defeat at the semi-finals of the Madrid Open. At the WTA Finals, Swiatek yet again beat her in the semis to move closer to her sixth title of the year.
