With the end of the 2023 season, the WTA will celebrate the best performers of the 2023 season as it does every year. From December 11 to December 15, the WTA will announce and honor the best players, the best coach, the best tournaments, and all such athletes who have performed exceptionally at the WTA Tour level. On Monday, the WTA announced five player awards, three player services awards, and the Coach of the Year Award.

Iga Swiatek is voted WTA Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. With this award, Swiatek becomes the only player to earn the accolade back-to-back after Serena Williams in 2012–2016. Swiatek had an amazing 2023 season in which she won major tournaments and finished the season as World No. 1 again.

The 2023 season saw Swiatek successfully defend her French Open title, besides winning the WTA 1000 China Open, WTA 500 events at the Qatar Total Energies Open, and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.

Swiatek also earned her first WTA Finals crown, beating Aryna Sabalenka in the semis. This helped Swiatek finish as the World No. 1 for two consecutive seasons.

Iga Swiatek, the player to watch out for in the future

The 22-year-old from Poland has shown an exemplary set of skills and resilience for such a young player. Moreover, her terrific rise to the ranks is a great testament to it. She is just 22 and already has four Grand Slam titles to her name.

However, in 2023, the Polish star had a rough patch when she was dethroned from her World No. 1 spot by none other than Aryna Sabalenka. However, after going unbeaten at the WTA 250 BNP Paribas Warsaw Open, she again captured her World No. 1 rankings at year-end.

Besides Swiatek, Elina Svitolina was named the Comeback Player of the Year. She reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and the semis of Wimbledon. Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens were announced as the Doubles Team of the Year. 

Although it was just their first season together, However, the best tournament awards are still to be declared and are expected to be announced in the coming days.
