World No 1 Iga Swiatek has been one of the consistent performers as she went on to clinch two Grand Slam singles titles and six WTA titles in the year. She created history by becoming the fourth player in the Open Era to retain the No. 1 for more than 30 weeks. Swiatek’s coach Tomasz Wiktorowski makes a huge claim on the difficulties she faced during the grass season along with her early exit at Wimbledon.

She was the dominant player in most of the tournaments on the WTA Tour, especially during the clay season. The 2-time French Open champion had registered an 18-match winning streak that ended with her loss at the Poland Open. Also, she produced a 37-match winning streak which is the longest on the WTA Tour in the 21st century but ended with her third loss at Wimbledon.

She faced elimination in the third round by Alize Cornet at Wimbledon. However, her best performance has been at 2021 when she reached the fourth round. The former tennis player admitted that she goes with full preparation to every tournament with the intention of winning. He further stated the example of Andre Agassi who skipped the tournament for a few years. He also admitted that it won’t be long before Iga Swiatek is able to even dominate the third Grand Slam tournament of the year since she is a junior Wimbledon champion.

Wiktorowski said during an interview that “Andre Agassi skipped Wimbledon for three or four years because he didn’t like playing on grass, several other players had problems with different surfaces, Roger Federer only won once in Paris on clay. We go to every tournament to win and that’s how I prepare Iga Swiatek, although I think this year she really didn’t feel she could win this tournament.

Continuing his train of thoughts, Tomasz Wiktorowski said “I won’t answer the question of when that will be, but just as I was convinced at the start of the year that she could become world number one. The good results at Wimbledon will come.

She has also been adjudged the Player of the year at the 2022 WTA Awards for her incredible achievements throughout the year. The 3-time Grand Slam champion registered 62 match wins in the season with 40 hard-court wins. She started the season as the World No 9 but ended the year as the World No 1. Iga Swiatek created another record as she topped the list of most wins against top-10 female players in 2022 with her tally of 15.
