Tomasz Swiatek lashes out at daughter’s critics regarding her stance on Russia-Ukrainian war
Swiatek has been wearing a Ukrainian feather on the cap since the onset of the war. She has clarified her stance on several occasions, stating as to why she decides to publicly support Ukraine.
“Playing with a ribbon on a hat, her views are clear. She wants the war to end. Sadly, after the match with Elina, there were harmful comments. You can’t stand by a topic like war. Iga has the right to her opinion,” said Tomasz. (H/T: rp.pl)
Iga Swiatek entered Wimbledon as one of the top contenders for the title. Tomasz Swiatek believes that her French Open run took a bit out of the world number one, which eventually affected her performance on grass. However, he believes that his daughter is on the right track, and is pretty satisfied with the progress she has been making over the past couple of years.
“Many fans even counted on her winning at Wimbledon and my heart would like it, but my mind says otherwise. The quarter-final is a success. Remember that playing to the end at Roland Garros limits the possibility of preparation. Iga had a few trainings, played a tournament and after a while she was in London. I am happy with the progress he is making,” said Tomasz.
