All eyes were on the quarterfinals at the WTA Stuttgart Open where World No. 1 Iga Swiatek faced US Open champion Emma Raducanu in a highly anticipated fixture. Unfortunately, a promising campaign for Raducanu ended as Iga Swiatek was simply sensational. The 20-year-old Pole secured her 21st win with sheer dominance as progressed to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Britain’s No.1.

The match lasted for 1 hour 45 minutes and there were some moments in the play that could have been stretched by Raducanu but unfortunately, she could not and had to bow out of the tournament. It is amazing how the youngster has won her last 13 matches in straight sets. The last set that she dropped was a month ago against Angelique Kerber at the Indian Wells.

In her on-court interview, Swiatek touched upon various interesting topics starting from how playing indoors in Stuttgart is very tricky and never the everyday. When asked if winning is becoming a routine, the Pole replied, “It is never routine here and spending every moment on the court is important to get to know it and get more experience. I am happy that today’s match was longer because not for now but for my future it is going to give me a lot of experience.”

Swiatek came up with a very honest answer on how being World No.1 did not change her as a person. How it was always her goal but despite reaching the summit she held onto her values, something that tells us a lot about the young Pole.

“It depends on the person I guess,” Swiatek promptly replied. “It does not really matter to me. It was very surprising for me when I reached No.1 because I was No.2 for a long time. For sure being No.1 was my goal so I needed to adjust really fast but basically it did not change me as a person honestly. It is surprising how we all want to be the best, we all are running so fast to reach our goals and in the end, we are still the same people with the same values.”

The World No. 1 is not bothered about the statistics and all the records she is breaking with every win on the bounce. She is just focused on getting more and more wins as she looks like in the form of her life. “I’m not thinking much about what’s happened, and also what’s going to happen. I’m just focusing on the next match, and I’m really doing everything to prepare and recover well after each round. … It seems like I’m going with the flow, but behind it, it’s hard work,” she added.

The pole will be up against Ludmilla Samsonova in the semifinals of the WTA Stuttgart Open. Swiatek has never met her on-court on the tour but she knows about the Russian from her junior years. Speaking about her semifinal matchup, Swiatek said, “I know her from my junior years, she is a couple of years older but we still played the same tournaments. “I’ve seen the scores, and it seems like [Samsonova] is getting more and more confident, and her ranking is going up. But tactically I still have to prepare for the game and I am sure I will be ready.”
