“I’m good at it, but I want to explore if I can be great at it,” Serena Williams spills the beans on her ‘evolving away’ from tennis for daughter Olympia

The 22-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, upon her conclusion from the ongoing US Open, plans to retire from her beloved sport nearly after 17 years of playing as a tennis professional. Discussing her plans, in an interview, the American stated that “there is no anger. I’m ready for the transition,” and earlier this month revealed that she is ‘evolving away’ from tennis.
‘The queen of tennis’ in an interview when asked about her reason to arrive at her retirement decision hinted by saying that she has to choose between her child or tennis quoting, “women sometimes have to make different choices than men if they want to raise a family. It’s just black and white. You make a choice or you don’t,” altogether stating the obvious that it’s hard for women to choose between having a family or the sport whilst undergoing various uncertainties than men.

The American icon, Serena Williams, who will go down in history as one of the greatest female athletes is an inspiration to thousands of younger generation players. There has always been a debate over the topic of hardships faced by women than men when considering life-changing decisions. Williams, who gave birth to her daughter Olympia in 2017 after she’d won the Australian Open earlier that year.
Opening up about her decision to retire after the US Open, she admitted herself being at peace with the decision and her intentions of being a ‘good mum.’ Serena imposed that the decision to ‘evolve’ from being a player was heavily based on her want to be a good mom at the moment.
Discussing her comfort of now being under the distinction of parenthood, Williams said “I think I’m good at it. But I want to explore if I can be great at it.” While discussing the topic of her retirement, Serena also mentioned that “Olympia doesn’t like when I play tennis. That kind of makes me sad and brings anxiety to my heart,” showing a heartfelt and marvelous love for her child.
