Former World No.1 Simona Halep won her 24th career title after beating in form Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia in the Final of the 2022 Canadian Open in three sets 6-3,2-6,6-3. This is Halep’s third WTA 1000 in Canada and she also became the first woman in the 21st century to win titles both in Montreal and Toronto.

Halep had a horrible last season due to injuries and came back at the start of this season. She started the year with a title triumph at the Melbourne Summer Set and had some decent outings at the Indian Wells Open. She also had a good grass season where she made it to the semifinals at Wimbledon.

In the post-match press conference, Halep spoke highly of Haddad Maia and revealed how difficult it is to play her. She also talked about the lessons she learned from her loss against the Brazilian earlier this year.
