Nick Kyrgios is preparing for his most important match yet at the US Open. He will be playing World No.1, Daniil Medvedev, in the round of 16 of the prestigious grand slam. He defeated American J.J Wolf in the third round to secure a place in the next place. Nick Kyrgios is eyeing a consecutive grand slam final this year after his run at Wimbledon.

The Aussie lost to Novak Djokovic in a thrilling 4-set at the Wimbledon championship. Kyrgios has also won the Citi Open this year. Medvedev and Kyrgios had last met at the Canadian Open in the round of 32 where Kyrgios prevailed. Now his US Open journey so far has got all the attraction. Unlike his Wimbledon run, Kyrgios is trying his best to maintain his composure during his matches.

In a press conference, Nick Kyrgios said, “As a tennis player, as an athlete, with any profession, you kind of want to be in those moments. Like, I don’t want to be playing futures or challengers on back courts with no crowd. That’s not why I play this sport. That’s not why I pick up a racquet. I want to be playing on the biggest stadiums in the world in front of millions of people, broadcasted globally.”

He further added on his being the only Australian left in the last few fixtures. He commented, “I know a lot of people don’t want me to succeed. I know a lot of people hate my game, the way I do things, the way I go about it. I’m the only Australian still left on the men’s side. It’s the same story every time, literally every time in a grand slam. I always thrive on it.

I never want to forget all the things people say. I always carry this chip on my shoulder. I have it all in the back of my head when I’m playing.”
