“In those two weeks I could bring the family to Formentera” Fabio Fognini takes a cheeky dig and hints at not playing Wimbledon this year
Fabio Fognini
Fabio Fognini got an amazing victory in his first-round match at the Roland Garros against the Australian Alexei Popyrin in straight sets. The Italian after the match said that he won’t be interested in playing Wimbledon without points and would rather take his family on a trip to Formentera in Spain.
The Italian after his match was told that this was his 15th grand slam to which he said, “I didn’t know it was the 15th. It’s nice to be here to play with players younger than me and above all to feel those feelings that make me feel good on the pitch. Winning 3-0 in the first round of a Grand Slam is never easy, doing it at the age of almost 35 certainly tastes better. I managed the match well, I knew I had to insist on his backhand and that this would give me a lot of points. So it was. Winning in the tournament I love most of all is always special”
“I’d also like to play 16th, but as I said at the end of the season we’ll take stock and see. In recent years I have certainly struggled a lot, they have been difficult for various reasons, but if I continue to have this spirit, this condition, there is no doubt that he can continue playing. I admit, I’d like to go back to raising a trophy, but I also have to consider that my family is starting to claim me more every day. It’s true, Flavia is there to help me, but three children are not easy to manage, especially next year when the oldest of the three will start going to school … we’ll talk about it and see what to do “ He added
