Is Rafael Nadal the latest Covid victim at Wimbledon? Reports reveal he was in close contact with the latest Covid positive player
Rafael Nadal with Tamara Korpatsch
Rafael Nadal is chasing the calendar grand slam for the first time in his career. Nadal started the season with a miraculous win at the Australian Open 2022 and he won the French Open 2022 convincingly to take his grand slam tally to 22. Nadal has cleared the first two hurdles on his way to a third Wimbledon title. This Wimbledon has been filled with drama and scares as the crowd came to their full strength after two years. The pandemic has slowed down a lot, but it’s not over as some players dropped out of the tournament due to Covid.
Matteo Berrettini, the 2021 finalist and one of the favorites this year withdrew along with Marin Cilic, another Wimbledon finalist. Roberto Bautista Agut also withdrew and it made the fans realize that this Wimbledon is also hanging by a thread as other players might start getting Covid positive. Apart from this scare, another drama began as Tamara Korpatsch announced that her doubles partner Harmony Tan had deserted her and pulled out of doubles as she moved onto the second round after defeating Serena Williams on her Wimbledon debut.
Rafael Nadal might suffer tragedy if his health gets affected by Covid.
It was a huge scene where people sympathized with Korpatsch and agreed that it was very unprofessional and unethical behavior from Tan. But, they also understood that since she got a chance to perform well in singles, it would be fairly obvious for her to keep her strength in order to go far in the tournament. Korpatsch and Tan were able to sort out the situation among themselves and things seemed quiet. But this time Korpatsch has dropped another bomb unintentionally.
Tamara posted a photo on her Instagram page and revealed that she has pulled out of a WTA 125 event in Contrexeville because she has found out that she is Covid positive. The worst news is that she posed for a photo with Rafael Nadal on the same day and though it is not certain if the Covid has also caught the symptoms, it would be a disastrous turn of events for the 22-time Grand Slam champion if that were the case. The spread of Covid at Wimbledon is threatening to ruin the already shaky event due to the ban of Russian and Belarusian players.
