Novak Djokovic, the 35-year-old Serbian captured all the headlines as he announced his decision to withdraw from the National Bank Open in Montreal a day before the draws for the tournament, the decision came through due to Djokovic’s vaccination status and the Serbian knew that he would not be allowed to participate unless he got vaccinated.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Djokovic captured his 21st Grand Slam title recently at the 2022 Wimbledon after beating Nick Kyrgios in the finals of the event. He has had to miss many tournaments due to his vaccination status the latest of which is the National Bank Open.

There were mixed reactions from fans all over Twitter after he recently announced his withdrawal from the National Bank Open, the defending Wimbledon champion has been under heavy fire from the media ever since he made his stance on the Covid-19 vaccination status. The Serbian refuses to get vaccinated and has made it clear that it doesn’t matter to him how many tournaments he misses, he does not plan on getting vaccinated.
Reacting to the information of Djokovic’s withdrawal on Twitter, Racquet Magazine made a tweet saying, “Dunno why this guy keeps entering tournaments hoping they’ll change their rules for him.” The tweet was not well received by Novak Djokovic’s wife, Jelena Djokovic who responded by tweeting out, “is this a real, international tennis magazine?! @atptour @Nicarzani Wow,” as a reply.
Jelena Djokovic, who has always been supportive of her husband’s initiatives on and off the court which includes his stance over the Covid-19 vaccination, fans took to Twitter to support Jelena and Novak Djokovic as well as they bashed the remarks on the Serbian. With the withdrawal from the National Bank Open, Djokovic’s participation at the US Open is unlikely as well due to the immigration rules of the United States.
