Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic
Daniil Medvedev, the 26-year-old Russian professional is widely regarded as one of the best players of this generation, ranked world number 1, Medvedev is a force to be reckoned with no matter the opponent. With 1 Grand Slam title to his name and 14 ATP single tour titles, Medvedev is undoubtedly deserving of being world number 1.
Daniil Medvedev’s most recent title win came at the Los Cabos Open as he beat Cameron Norrie in the finals by 7-5, 6-0 to lift the 14th ATP title of his career. Daniil Medvedev talks about the big three missing the Montreal Masters
The Montreal Masters event or the Canadian Open will be played without the presence of the big three competing. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer will not be competing at the event due to various reasons, Djokovic decided to opt out of the event as he is unvaccinated, Rafael Nadal pulled out due to an abdominal injury, and Federer’s comeback is still unknown as the Swiss legend had a knee surgery recently.
When asked about the big three not competing, Medvedev said, “Yea, of course, what I said, if the big three are in the tournament, they are the favorites straightaway. It’s easy because they win a lot of tournaments, almost every tournament they play in, so there is no surprise when we make them favorites. At the same time for me, it doesn’t change much if they are here or not because my goal is to win the tournament. So no matter who I play in the final, if it’s going to be a qualifier or wild card, lucky loser, second seed, I just want to win the match.”
“Then, of course, it’s sometimes different sensations when you beat somebody from the big three. Well, actually ‘big three’, I never beat Roger. For me when I Rafa one time and I beat Novak a few times, it’s a special sensation, brings you a lot of confidence. Yeah, it’s just a good feeling. At the same time, I can tell you winning a masters is a good feeling no matter who you beat. Yeah, it’s both in the same time,” Daniil Medvedev added further.
