“It is going to be quite difficult” Stefanos Tsitsipas wary of ‘unpredictable’ Nick Kyrgios ahead of their clash in Halle
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios
World No. 6 and the second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will be taking on World No. 65 Nick Kyrgios in the second-round clash in Halle as both players look to continue looking for their first-ever Grasscourt title and also get into the best shape before the 2022 Wimbledon Championships that start in less than a fortnight.
Stef comes into the clash with a 7-6(1), 1-6, 6-3 against Benjamin Bonzi while Kyrgios had a comparatively easier win as he defeated local boy Daniel Altamaier 6-3, 7-5 to set up this mouth-watering clash against Stefanos as both players have a special affinity towards the surface.
“Sometimes Nick Kyrgios plays with incredible intensity, then suddenly loses focus”: Stefanos Tsitsipas
This will be the fourth clash between Stef and Nick and their first meeting on grass courts as all of their previous three meetings happened on hardcourts. Nick had won the first two clashes between the two winning in 3-sets on both occasions. Stef claimed his first win against the Australian in the 2021 Laver Cup when Nick represented Team World while Stef was part of the Team Europe squad.
“I can say that playing it on grass is going to be quite difficult. He is excited to play the season on grass. Nick is unpredictable. Sometimes he plays with incredible intensity, then suddenly loses focus. You have to try to play your game consistently against him,” said Tsitsipas in his press conference after knowing of his clash with Kyrgios.
Having claimed himself to be one of the Top-5 or Top-10 grasscourt players, Nick will be looking to justify his statement with a win against the Greek who has also spoken about bringing his best game to grass but his performances are yet to compliment his statement.
