“It is strange,” Former coach Marian Vajda feels it is weird to be at Wimbledon but not with Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic, who is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, has been coached by many great names in the past. But one name that stands out is Marian Vajda. The duo worked together for a long time and had one of the best partnerships in tennis history.

But they decided to end their partnership a few months ago mutually after 15 years of togetherness and have stayed in touch ever since. After the split with Djokovic, Vajda started a new partnership with a young player, Alex Molcan who is slowly and steadily rising up the ranks.

In an interview with Tennis Majors, Vajda spoke about how strange it is to travel at Wimbledon without Djokovic. Vajda’s pupil, Molcan, faced Djokovic at the French Open in the second round and Vajda admitted it was very strange to sit in an opposite box in a Djokovic game but said that they still share a very good bond.

“It is strange, obviously. First of all, it was very strange in Paris (Molcan faced Djokovic in the second round of the French Open), to be in the opposing box. It was a terrible feeling, I have to be honest. I felt so bad, Novak also felt very bad. We stay in touch, communicate and send messages to each other. Our relationship is still very good,” he said.

Vajda revealed that he sent him a congratulatory message at the French Open and said that Djokovic even gave him tips on how can he improve Molcan’s game.

“I sent him a message saying ‘Congratulations’!!. He played a very good match. I told him that Alex is improving, he agreed and told me: ‘He should have attacked my second serve more’. And I was like: ‘My God, you are crazy, you are unbelievable’. He is telling me tactics against himself, hahaha,” Vajda said.

The coach said that it was very nice of Djokovic to give him some tips and then said that he wants him to go all the way to win his 21st major title at Wimbledon this fortnight.

“It was very nice of him to give me some tips on how to improve Alex’s game. He helped me to understand Alex’s game better. It is tough to play against Novak and to be in the tournament where Novak is – I always support him and I want him to win Wimbledon,” he said.
