The Spanish Paula Badosa has recently moved up the WTA rankings. She was the world’s number three but now she is at her career-high ranking of the world’s number 2. She recently faced Ons Jabeur of Tunisia in the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open. the match was worth watching as both the players were trying their best to win. The match was of high intensity and Paula Badosa won the match 6-7,6-1,3-6. But Badosa couldn’t keep her momentum going as she lost her semifinal match to Aryna Sabalenka.
Paula Badosa is behind Iga Swiatek by approximately 1800 points. Iga, who is on a winning streak of 21 consecutive matches is leading the rankings quite comfortably. Paula Badosa was very happy and celebrated her win by drawing a heart and number 2 on the center clay court.

“I was aware for weeks, I’m not going to lie,” Badosa told WTA Insider after the win. “In Charleston, I needed one more match: nothing. In Miami, one more match: I had to retire. It was a goal and I really wanted to be in that position. For me, it’s a dream come true so I was really going after it. So I’m really happy that today I could do it and I could leave that mental block out of it from the match and I could play pretty well. I think I played a high-level match.”
Paula Badosa: The new No. 2
A year ago Paula Badosa was ranked number 62. After this, she began to climb up the WTA rankings and this started with the Madrid Open where she was a semi-finalist, and then she won her first WTA 1000 title in Belgrade. She also reached the quarter-finals of the french open. In the next season, Paula won a hard court title in Sydney. She made it to the Indian Wells semi-finals and Miami Open quarterfinals last month.
Paula Badosa faced her doubles partner in the semifinals of the Stuttgart Open. Badosa lost the semifinal match in straight sets 6-7(5),4-6 but will still rise to No.2 in the World. The Stuttgart Open final will be played between Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka.
