Botic van de Zandschulp is a Dutch international tennis player. He played in the finals of the 2022 Munich Open against Holger Rune. unfortunately, Zandschulp had to retire in the first set after leading the set by 4-3 making Holger an ATP title winner for the first time in his career.

On his way to the finals, Botic won matches against Brandon Nakashima and Egor Gerasimov to enter the quarter-finals. In the last-8 he defeated Casper Ruud, one of the tournament favourites and then defeated Miomir Kecmanović in the semis. The win over Miomir was the only time Botic had dropped a set during the whole week. Defeating Miomir, Botic reached his first-ever Tour finals which ended in the most unfortunate way.

“Unfortunately, I had to retire during the final today. I had some problems with breathing and it was impossible for me to play. 30 minutes after I retired everything was okay again. I am flying to Madrid and hopefully, I’ll be fit enough to play. Let’s hope more finals will follow,” tweeted Botic after receiving medical treatment as he did not stay for the trophy ceremony and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.
