Simona Halep was included in the preliminary entry list for the 2023 US Open, despite being suspended for an alleged doping test. Her name on the US Open entry list sparked rumors that she was declared clear of any wrongdoing, and her suspension was finally lifted.

However, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) chipped in right away to issue a clarification on the same. The agency stated no decision has been made on the case just yet. Moreover, she was marked as provisionally suspended from the entry list for the 2023 US Open.

It looks unlikely that the tribunal will make their decision in time for the US Open. Simona Halep has already publicly declared her innocence, and revealed that her hearing has been already delayed by a couple of months. She has been supported by a number of fellow WTA stars on the tour, who have called for the former Grand Slam champion to have a fair court hearing.

Simona Halep has been suspended from professional tennis since the allegations were made against her last October. The Romanian has dropped several ranking points in this period. However, going by the ITIA’s recent statement on Simona Halep’s US Open prospects, it remains unlikely that she would take to the court any time soon.

I promise you that no decision has been made available to anyone yet. In the US Open roster, it is clearly marked as provisionally suspended, and therefore, if it remains suspended, it will be withdrawn. If it’s not, she can compete,” the ITIA stated.

A couple of months ago, Simona Halep was a target of another alleged doping test. The Romanian pleaded her innocence on social media and stated that the whole situation was nothing but mental torture. The 2018 French Open champion remains the only player in the entry list for the 2023 US Open to be marked as provisionally suspended. As it stands, the former world number one could face a ban of up to four years if she is found guilty.
