It all started with his deportation from Australia after reaching to participate at the Australian Open to defend his title.
The Serbian legend even failed to defend his title at the French Open as he lost to the eventual winner Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals. But success came his way when he clinched his 7th Wimbledon title and 21st singles title overall at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship defeating Nick Kyrgios. “It’s a bit extremely unfortunate to not let him play” Steve Johnson on Novak Djokovic’s unable to participate at the US Open 2022
Steve Johnson, the American player, during a podcast show, expressed his views how Novak Djokovic‘s missing the US Open is a very unfortunate situation and will also affect the level of competition. He said “You know, even though he’s, I don’t know seven or eight in the world. He’s the best player.Yeah, you know, I think it’s a bit extremely unfortunate. I think it’s a bit crazy to not let him into the states and to play. But again, that’s my opinion, you know, I’m not somebody at the top that makes the rules. I think him and Rafa are the best players and you want the best players to be competing at the Slams at the highest level.“
He even expressed his desire to see the 21-time Grand Slam champion participate at the US Open but it will be sad to not see him play. He added “You know, whether you like Novak or not, he’s one of the GOATs and there’s really no debating that. I get, I get why the rules are enforced. I get all that, you know, I, I completely do. But now that we’re two and a half years into this thing, you know, it seems to be a bit insane, not to let him in and I don’t think that we’re gonna get any guidelines change before the Open to let him in sadly enough“
