At the upcoming 2022 Cincinnati Open, Emma Raducanu and Serena Williams will be locking horns in the first round of the tournament. While Emma is playing her first full season, Serena is on her retirement Tour as she has announced the 2022 US Open will be the final tournament of her illustrious career. Both Emma and Serena have vested interest in this year’s US Open as the American will have her final chance to win Grand Slam number 24 while Raducanu will be defending her first title and that too a very important one.

Neither of the player has been in great form but the clash between them is highly anticipated by all tennis fans as it could well be the change of guard for women’s tennis and also probably the only time Emma and Serena could meet on the court. With the Cincinnati Open starting on Monday, 15th August, the buzz around the match is further increasing.

Emma had received quite a lot of affection from the fans during her dream run at the 2021 US Open and Serena has always been one of the crowd favourites, especially in the USA. With the match in Cincinnati, the fans will be treated to a clash between their two favourites and Emma is as excited as the rest of the tennis fraternity.

“I think it’s gonna be an exciting match. I’m looking forward to it. It’s an amazing opportunity to play probably the best tennis player of all time. It’s probably going to be my last opportunity to ever play her unless I draw her in New York. I think that, for our careers to have crossed over, I think I’m really fortunate that I get to play her. Whatever happens, I think it’s gonna be a really good experience for me and something that I will remember for the rest of her life.

“I remember the highlight of my year was when I was young, at a tennis club, my first coach would take me and one other boy to Wimbledon on my day out. We’d take the tram there. We got on to Centre Court somehow and we watched her annihilate someone one and one. That was just really cool to see her live.

“That day out with my first coach, I was so excited for the day. I think that was a really special time in my life, a memory that I’ll always have. Expectations, I don’t really know, I don’t really care. I just want to go out there and, one, enjoy the match that I’m going to play whenever I do play it. It’s a great gift to play the best on her way out from the sport. So I’m just looking forward to that,” said Raducanu in her press conference at the Cincinnati Open.

The clash between Raducanu and Williams was initially scheduled for the evening session on Monday but as per the latest reports, the match has been pushed to 16th August, Tuesday adding a few more hours of waiting for the fans.
