Jan-Lennard Struff, the 32-year-old German tennis professional gave Germany the lead in the Davis Cup. Struff breezed past Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi as he defeated him in three sets by 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. France quickly retaliated as Adrian Mannarino leveled the tie after beating Oscar Otte in straight sets.
It was Germany’s first Davis Cup victory over France since 1938 but the thing that caught the public eye was the lack of spectators in the stadium. Photos of the relatively empty stadiums were shared across social media and that is thanks to the unbelievably high ticket prices of the matches.

The cheapest ticket prices for the Davis Cup matches started at 65 Euros. The high prices resulted in barely any spectators in the stadium as fans took to social media to call out this issue. Struff opined on the high ticket prices of the matches as the German also thinks that the prices are a bit ‘problematic’.
Jan-Lennard Struff said “I was not frightened ’cause I saw it. You could look up online how many tickets had been sold. Was more shocked when I saw the ticket price. That was the problem. Totally understandable that a lot of fans won’t come because its brutal and expensive. It is a pity, nevertheless the fans that are here and paid for the tickets they supported me very well. I’m very thankful that a lot came and made a lot of noise.“
The group finals will take place in four different locations, the ticket prices are only high in Hamburg. According to the organizers, the tickets in Glasglow and Bologna are available for the equivalent of 20 Euros and the prices in Valencia are available from 20 Euros. Tennis fans across the globe mocked the tournament organizers for the embarrassing scenes.
