The fifth seed, Aryna Sabalenka says her latest victory in the final of the Australian Open 2023 still feels like a dream. On Saturday, the Belarusian star defeated Elena Rybakina in an epic final. The match lasted for around two and a half hours and Aryna won the match in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Although she lost the first set, she made an amazing comeback to win the next two sets and the title.

However, it was surprising to see Aryna hitting more aces than Elena. The Kazakh had the record for the most number of aces in the tournament but she couldn’t convert use her advantage in the finals. Aryna posted on her social media post her first major title and said that she still can’t believe that she won a Grand Slam title. The Belarusian had a better record over Elena in the past defeating her thrice in the major tournaments.

However, she had more double faults but still managed to win the match. Aryna had three break points won in the match while Elena had two break points to her name. It was a close final in the three sets and never looked one-sided. The match kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

Aryna Sabalenka wins her first Grand Slam title

Earlier in the game, the fans expected to have a close game, and it proved them right. However, Elena came into the final with experience of winning a Grand Slam. On the other hand, Aryna had a better head-to-head record than Elena. The Belarusian had 51 winners in the match and held her nerve to win after falling behind in the first set.

She is the 29th different women’s player in the Open Era to secure the title at the Australian Open and the 58th different women’s player in the Open Era to secure a Grand Slam title. She won 15 matches main draw matches at the Australian Open equaling her wins at the US Open in a single tournament so far in her professional career.
