2nd seed at the 2022 US Open in the men’s singles, Rafael Nadal has become the latest player to congratulate Serena Williams on her career as the American has announced this year’s US Open will be the final tournament of her career. While Serena has made her way to the third round, Rafa is yet to play his second-round match.

The Spaniard is the man with the most majors with 22 to his name and the overall record in the Open Era is held by Serena with 23 Grand Slams to her name. While Serena single-handedly dominated the WTA Tour, Rafa was also in the race on the ATP Tour and the two legends have grown into quite good friends over the years.

With the whole tennis fraternity celebrating the brilliance of Serena ahead of her retirement, Nadal also joined with a short and sweet video message to the American congratulating and thanking her for her services to the sport which she has well and truly dominated over 3 decades.

“Hey Serena, just from my side I just can tell you, Thank You. Thank you for the amazing things you did for our sport. Such an amazing ambassador and it has been a huge honour to share with you almost all of my tennis career and honestly, I have plenty of memories of you playing, winning and emotional moments. So it’s been a huge privilege. So just, all the best for your other life. Hopefully, we can keep seeing each other around the door and as I said, all the very best and see you soon,” said Nadal.

Serena will now be taking on Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round while Rafa will lock horns with Fabio Fognini for a place in the third round as he looks to win his 3rd major of the season having clinched titles in Australia and Paris this season in a remarkable comeback.
