Roger Federer, the 41-year-old Swiss tennis professional is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time by millions of fans around the world. With 20 grand slam titles to his name, the Swiss Maestro is undoubtedly counted amongst the most elite players in the history of the sport.

Federer took to social media to announce the news of his imminent retirement. Breaking the hearts of millions across the globe, Federer announced that he would be retiring from professional tennis with the 2022 Laver Cup being the final tournament of his glorious career.

Swiss icon Roger Federer has shared the court with some amazing rivals over the course of his career. Most notable of all would undoubtedly be 36-year-old Spaniard Rafael Nadal who has been Federer’s number 1 rival for a long time. Nadal is also considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time by millions around the world

Nadal took to Twitter to pay tribute to Federer after the Swiss maestro shared the news of his retirement. Nadal said, “Dear Roger,my friend and rival. I wish this day would have never come. It’s a sad day for me personally and for sports around the world. It’s been a pleasure but also an honor and privilege to share all these years with you, living so many amazing moments on and off the court.

We will have many more moments to share together in the future, there are still lots of things to do together, we know that. For now, I truly wish you all the happiness with your wife, Mirka, your kids, your family and enjoy what’s ahead of you. I’ll see you in London @LaverCup,” Nadal added further.

It is clear that Nadal and Federer have an immense sense of respect for one another and despite being rivals on the courts for the longest time, both the players are truly good friends as well.
