Frances Tiafoe also defeated 22-time grand slam champion, Rafael Nadal in the fourth round. After his quarterfinal win, Tiafoe said, “This is wild, this is crazy. I had the biggest win of my life 48 hours ago. To back it up, it’s tough to turn the page, but I did, and now I’m in the semis.” Frances Tiafoe has made another piece of history at the US Open this time after his win over Rublev.

Frances Tiafoe defeated Andrey Rublev in the Arthur Ashe stadium. Tiafoe also became the first black man to reach the semifinal at the US Open since Arthur Ashe himself in 1972. This is a big feat for Tiafoe who is already his home crowd’s favourite to win the tournament. He has also previously said that the lack of diversity in these tournaments have made him feel like an ‘outsider’.

Tiafoe said, “Let’s enjoy this one. We’ve got two more, guys. We’ve got two more.” This victory ensures that he will break into the top 20 of the world rankings next week.”

The American star further added, “I feel so at home at courts like this. This court is unbelievable. You guys get so far behind me, you know I want to play and want to give it my best. I always find a way somehow on this court. I always try to play great tennis and I have been.” Tiafoe will now face either Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal.
