Stefanos Tsitsipas talks about the moment he played against his childhood hero Roger Federer in a tennis match. The greek has been a huge Federer fan all his life he has been inspired by the Swiss Maestro to play tennis and getting the opportunity to play against the player who inspired him is very special.
Tsitsipas talks about the moment he played against Federer and he never believed that he would get an opportunity to play against him. Tsitsipas was just 5 years old when Federer won his first grand slam at Wimbledon. Thinking of watching a player play all your life and imagining playing against him is unbelievable. It is amazing to watch how fast Tsitsipas made it to the biggest stage but it is beyond reality to think of watching a 40-year-old still playing amazing tennis.
Tsitsipas in the interview says, “I enjoyed just watching him on TV. Probably hitting with him on a tennis court would’ve been…. never in a lifetime scenario. But sometimes, it’s with a little bit of determination, wanting to make it to the top professionally. Your dreams kind of pay off”

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Roger Federer have played against each other on 5 different occasions and the greek has managed to defeat his role model in 3 of those matches. The pair have also played together as a pair at the Laver Cup which is even more special for Tsitsipas.
When he was asked about the feeling he got while playing against Roger Federer for the first time, he said, “One thing led to another and suddenly I am up against Roger Federer. I am about to serve and I am thinking Roger is on the other side of the net. This is beyond unimaginable like, How did we get to this point.”
“He is someone that is difficult to believe is real you know. It’s almost incredible what he has done with all the records and the game style he plays you cannot teach that. No one should replicate him because it is impossible to do that.” He added that he misses him on the tour, “He is a nice lad, he is a very charming person and everyone loves him.”
