Alexander Zverev has been very consistent the whole clay season and has also increased his ruthlessness in the French Open 2022. He is back in the semifinal for the second consecutive year and will face Rafael Nadal for a spot in the final. He has finally been able to defeat an ATP top 10 player at the Grand Slam, and he will be looking to notch up one more victory against Rafa.

Zverev managed to defeat Carlos Alcaraz, one of the favorites in the quarterfinal convincingly. Zverev will have to play his absolute best to defeat Nadal in Paris. Nadal has been involved in a lot of grueling matches in the French Open this year. He was pushed to a five-set marathon by Felix Auger-Aliassime, he also needed a very taxing four-set match to get past Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.

After his recovery from the rib injury, which made him miss the beginning of the clay season, and his recurring foot pain in Rome, it feels like if any of these make a reappearance in the match in Paris, it could be game over for Rafa. But, apart from that, Zverev himself has a lot of firepower to get past Nadal. Chris Evert, the former world 1, and 18-time Grand Slam champion analyses Zverev’s biggest strengths going against Rafa.

Chris Evert believes Alexander Zverev will have to use his forehand a lot to win

Chris Evert in an interview with Eurosport talked about Zverev’s shot-making. She said:

“Zverev has been very self-contained. His attitude, his professionalism has been great this tournament, his focus has been great. He has to get a lot of first serves in, because that is his big shot. He can win free points off that serve against Rafa and he has got to move around that forehand and pull the trigger on the forehand. That’s the nig combo, the serve, and the forehand and that has to be working big time for him, if he wants to beat Rafa.”

She also talked about the condition of Rafa’s body which would be another factor in the match. She said:

“How is he gonna come out. He’s been in so many big, long, grueling matches and how does his body feel. How does he feel that’s gonna be another factor. But, I think we are going to have another four-five set match with those two and we are going to see their best tennis.”
