Serena Williams, arguably one of the greatest female athletes in the world, has been in the spotlight after she announced her retirement from the competitive world. She will play her last Grand Slam event at the US Open which starts on 29 August. She recently got a hearty farewell from the audience after being defeated by Belinda Bencic in the second round at the Canadian Open.
The former World No 1 and the 23-time Grand Slam champion has played a major role in popularizing women’s tennis and is an inspiration to millions. She will play her last match in New York where she won her first singles title in the year 1999 and is looking forward to enjoying her last few matches ahead of her illustrious career which lasted over two decades. She along with her sister Venus Williams are an undefeated doubles pair at the Grand Slam finals.
Serena is all set to play next at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati after her exit at the Canadian Open. She had a comfortable win in the first round against Nuria Parrizas-Diaz where she defeated the Spaniard in two sets. She had returned to the court just ahead of the 2022 Wimbledon Championship after a gap of twelve months but her comeback was short-lived with her first-round exit.
“It will be a good matchup for her before going into New York” Andy Roddick hopeful of Serena Williams having a great run before the US Open

Serena Williams is all set to play her first-round match with the 19-year-old British player Emma Raducanu, the defending champion of the US Open. The Brit will be looking ahead to have a strong season on the hard court as her performances have been in turmoil since her title win last year and failed to prove her dominance.
Andy Roddick, former No 1 and one-time Grand Slam revealed that it will be good for the American as she will have a reasonable number of matches under her belt before she bids adieu to tennis. He said “This is actually a good matchup for Serena, needing to kind of get those reps going into New York. She’s gonna get a lot of balls to hit, she’s gonna get a look at her to serve. It’s not gonna blow her off the court. It’s going to be kind of a pressure mechanism.”
He even stated that Serena was playing well against Bencic and how the encounter between Serena and Raducanu will be totally a different experience. It will be interesting to see how the match turns out to be as it is the first time both the players will be playing against each other. He said “I actually thought Serena was hitting the ball pretty well against Belinda Bencic, I know she lost and the score-line was pretty straightforward. I think the fact that she’ll have a little bit more time against Raducanu. Raducanu is not gonna come out and hit flat inside the court, switch directions like Bencic was doing and kind of bully Serena’s movement“
