Holger Rune reveals his ambitions of a Olympic medal next year

World No. 9, Holger Rune is one of the biggest ‘new generation’ of tennis players. The youngster is the highest-ranked Dane in ATP history. Rune had an impressive 2022 season, as he won 3 ATP titles. The 19-year-old made remarkable improvement in his rankings. Rune moved from out of the Top 100, to No.11 by year-end.
Before making his first Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance, he won his first title at the Bavarian Championship. . The major highlights of his campaign, were when he reached three finals in October and won the Stockholm Open. He then finished the year by winning the ATP 1000 Paris Masters after defeating three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka, Andrey Rublev, world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, and tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
Given that the event will be played on Roland Garros clay, Rune will undoubtedly have many fond memories of Paris. This will definitely motivate the young aspirant next year. Rune also performs best on clay court, thus, he will have a higher chance of reaching the later stages. When asked about the 2024 Olympics, the teenager stated,
“It is [a big goal of mine]. I am super excited for it. It’s going to be next year, 2024 in Paris. I always play great in Paris and I am excited for it. It’s a great event. As a kid, I’ve been dreaming about it as well, so it will soon be a reality.”
Considering the fact that Holger has been playing on clay since he was a kid, his Olympic dreams are not too far-fetched. Rune is also confident in his ability to utilise his proficiency to his advantage. Since the Olympics come about once in a while, 2024 is a good opportunity for Holger to fulfil his childhood ambitions.

Holger Rune will be the first male Danish player to compete in the Olympics since 1996
In contrast to former women’s world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, who represented Scandinavia at three Olympics, the most recent of which was the 2016 Rio Games, Rune is expected to become the first Danish male athlete to compete at the Olympics since Kenneth Carlsen did so in 1996. And given that the tournament is being played on clay, he will undoubtedly have high expectations for making it to the later rounds.
Holger Rune also talked about his strengths on different courts and his capacity on clay courts, “I think hard court and clay [are my best surfaces]. I still have to get some more experience on grass, but I feel the aggressive game style I have is good for grass and I move well. I just have to practice more on it And I think I can be as good as I am on hard court and clay.”
